Riverwind Casino Opens in Oklahoma

A new casino has been opened in Oklahoma, boasting of being the largest in the state and offering a genuine Las-Vegas experience.

The Riverwind Casino sits on a 15.5-acre property with a 219,000 square-foot building just south of Norman. The casino is almost double the size of Las Vegas' Caesar's Palace and The Mirage casinos.

The casino had a warmly received soft opening July 17, where it attracted some 2,000 people even without advertising. A grand opening ceremony is scheduled for Aug. 10.

"We have the latest and newest games, and our goal is to create a quality experience unlike anything our customers have ever seen in Oklahoma," said Chickasaw Enterprises CEO Brian Campbell. "We're trying to achieve a Las Vegas-style experience."

The casino is the 18th opened by the Chickasaw Nation, and it is expected to provide jobs for some 1,800 people, full and part-time. With this, Campbell predicts that there will be a significant economic impact on local communities brought about by the casino.

Chickasaw Enterprises has already built a $1.7 million sewage treatment plant for Goldsby and a $2.1 million water tower for Newcastle.

The casino houses 2,200 electronic games and 72 blackjack and poker tables. It also has an off-track horse racing betting room that simulcasts races all over the country.

The casino also has two full-sized restaurants, a coffee shop, a food court and a bar and lounge. It also boasts of the 1,500-seat Showplace Theatre that includes a mezzanine level with VIP sections.
